1998: A band named FATE consisting of Tony Smith, Gina Griffiths, Sher Falkner and Blake Whitcombe, broke up. After the breakup, Tony & Gina then went on to record a few songs, together and solo. During this time, Tony built himself a recording studio and mastering facility. In Nov. 1998, Tony was talking to his nephew Scott who reminded him that mutual friend Larry Farkas wasn't really playing with anybody, so Tony gave Larry a call. While Larry, Tony and Gina were jamming one day, Larry invited his old friend Glen Mancuroso to come play drums and Choke was born. Yes Choke and not Choked yet. Early in 1999 When the Eagle Cries was recorded and Choke did a couple of gigs around town as they finished up recording. During the time of mixing everything, Tony tore all the ligaments in his right wrist. The wrist injury took about 9 months to heal. During this time, Tony finished mixing When the Eagle Cries, and Glen left and joined another band. After the CD When the Eagle Cries was released, Choke did some shows with Blake Whitcombe, former member of Fate, on drums. They also placed their music on MP3.Com under the name Choke, but shortly after this, Tony did a search on bands named Choke and boy, there we're a lot of them, so they added the D and became CHOKED. Since there were so many bands named Choke they decided to keep the URL the same, and hoped to get some of the traffic from some of other bands named Choke (and maybe some new fans). From When the Eagle Cries CD, "Fantasy" was #1 at MP3.Com and Waiting On A Train was #2. Quite a few of the other tracks made it into the top 10. In 1999 Larry, Gina and Tony recorded a full length CD called #69. In Oct '99, they released #69 and on Oct. 29th Tied Up And Dragged Away went to #1 on MP3.Com. The story goes on to where they are today, just a recording band because now only Larry and Tony are Choked.
